These hoops move away from a uniform tube width, instead swelling toward the base and tapering back at the hinge, so the shape reads as elongated and drawn out rather than a traditional circle. The widest point sits at the bottom, giving the hoop visible weight and shape even though it's hollow, with the taper drawing the eye back up cleanly to the fastening.
